Site description

Exploring Captain Kirle’s reef feels like drifting over a series of underwater aquariums. The ledge forms interconnected cul-de-sacs, each teeming with myriad fish and critters. Goliath groupers inhabit the deeper parts, while Green morays prefer the upper regions. Loggerhead, Green, and Hawksbill turtles gracefully navigate both levels. Nestled beneath the ledge, nurse sharks—some of them quite large—find shelter. Occasionally, a Reef shark cruises along the top, riding the current. The reef’s vibrant colors come alive with Blue, Queen, Gray, and French Angelfish, as well as their rock beauty counterparts. Throughout the reef, you’ll encounter Reef, Four-eye, and Spotfin Butterflyfish (often seen in pairs). For divers embarking on a two-tank trip, Captain Kirle’s leaves an indelible impression of the wonders of marine life.

Route & typical conditions

Route

As many other sites on the 3rd reef line, operators may choose to conduct the dive as a drift dive. Following the contour of the ledge is the most where divers may find the most out of this reef.

Typical conditions

Conditions are often good in this site, with visibility ranging from 60 to 80 feet and currents moderate to strong.
