Site description

Elkhorn Reef is named after the prominent stand of elkhorn coral that characterizes this patch reef. Located on the same inside reef line as Ball Buoy, it lies about three miles to the north. This reef is smaller and shallower than Ball Buoy, with depths reaching only about 25 feet and much of the reef lying in less than 15 feet of water. This makes it an ideal spot for snorkelers. However, caution is advised as Elkhorn coral is particularly fragile and requires careful handling to preserve its delicate structure. Part of this site is usually above water.
