Site description

The "Imor Reef" is a small trawler that sits in 165 feet of water in Pompano Beach. The wreck sits upright with its bow point south. The wreck is slightly tilted. As many seldomly visited wreck in the area, this one is full of life. Schools of tropical fish plus the presence of large species like Goliath groupers call this site home. Penetration is possible but limited.

Route & typical conditions

Route

This is a hot drop dive - and not necessarily an easy one. The wreck is pretty small and the orientation (north to south) does not help on making the drop easy. Divers should take some time to explore the exterior of the wreck and appreciate the marine life - more than artifacts or features on the wreck.

Typical conditions

Currents can be strong at the surface but typically mild at depth. Visibility is good, and this site does get dark - although it sits fairly deep.

Wreck history

Imor historic photo
The Imor, originally launched in 1958 in Gdansk, Poland as a fishing vessel, underwent a transformation to serve as an oceanographic research vessel for the Polish government. Today, it lies at a dive site, upright, with its bow facing south.
