Site description

Lynn’s Reef, closely associated with Lynn Simmons—the diving pioneer of Boynton Beach—is a must-visit if you’re exploring the underwater world in Boynton Beach. Beyond the prominent main ledge, there are numerous other intriguing areas. For instance, on the western side of the reef, about halfway down, you’ll encounter an area known as ‘Table Tops,’ which merits exploration. Moving toward the northeastern end, there’s another section called ‘Jump,’ characterized by a gap in the reef with ledges extending both east and west. Continuing along the main ledge to the northern tip, you’ll discover a smaller ledge that heads back south. Keep an eye out for ‘Mellow Yellow,’ a local resident—a 10-foot Lemon Shark—who occasionally graces the reef.

Route & typical conditions

Route

If you’re diving with a northward current, begin your descent north of ‘Castle Rocks.’ Follow the main ledge, making a slight detour westward toward ‘Table Tops.’ As you approach the northern end, you have two options: swim east and explore the ‘Jump’ area, or continue north to investigate the ‘north hook.’ If time permits, venture over the north hook, where you’ll encounter two sizable outcroppings that have broken off from the reef.

Typical conditions

Conditions are often good in this site. Typical north currents (moderate to strong) and good visibility are often the norm. Also, this site sits near the end of the reef system bringing non-silted water to the site.
