Site description

Mar-a-lago reef is an artificial reef accessible from the beach. It was mainly created to mitigate beach erosion. Tons of rocks and concrete rocks were dumped in approximately 30 feet of water off the coast of West Palm Beach. Local divers sometimes call this site Pep reef. In strict theory Mar-a-Lago reef sits north west of Pep reef, but only 600 feet away - reason why it's mostly considered a single site.

Route & typical conditions

Route

Access from the beach is possible but not the easiest. Not only it a considerable swim, but most of the beaches are private which makes reaching this site a difficult task for the general public. Divers should start their dive in the south part of the site (formally Pep) and explore the crevices created on the rocks. Then can swim north west to shallower water (around 20 feet) and find Mar-a-Lago reef.

Typical conditions

Given the site proximity to the shore, currents tend to be very mild. Visibility could be affected by surface conditions.
