Site description

Palm Beach County, Florida, is a haven for scuba divers, offering an array of shallow reef diving experiences that cater to both novice and seasoned divers. The county’s unique geographical location along the Southeast Florida Reef Tract provides access to some of the most vibrant and diverse ecosystems in the Atlantic. The shallow reefs in Palm Beach County are part of a larger reef system that stretches from Miami to Palm Beach, with the Gulf Stream current bringing clear, warm water that nurtures an abundance of marine life. Divers can explore the underwater landscape, which includes a mix of coral formations, sponges, and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. The shallow reefs, ranging from 15 to 40 feet in depth, are particularly accessible for less experienced divers or those looking to enjoy longer bottom times with minimal decompression concerns. Some of the sites that operators visit when advertising shallow reefs in Palm Beach county include: Fourth Windows, Elevator Shaft, Bath and Tennis, Paul's Reef and Breaker's Reef.

Route & typical conditions

Route

Although depending on conditions and the specific operator, most of these dives are conducted as drift dives. Although it's not impossible, anchor dives are more rare in Palm Beach county. Divers will be asked to follow a dive leader that will be carrying a flag at all times.

Typical conditions

Conditions vary a lot in these shallows sites - currents and proximity to an inlet may affect the dive conditions. Although conditions are generally really good - divers shall expect visibility ranging between 50 to 70 feet. Currents tend to be moderate to strong - not as much as in deeper sites, but still strong enough to push these dives as drifts.
