Site description

Peck Lake Reef, located just south of the St. Lucie Inlet in Martin County, Florida, is a natural reef that offers a stunning underwater experience for divers and snorkelers alike. This reef is part of the northernmost reach of the Florida Coral Reef Tract, which extends in a 360-mile arc from the Dry Tortugas to Stuart. The reef rises from about 32 feet to as shallow as 5 feet at its crest, creating a diverse and vibrant marine habitat. The reef is covered in stony corals and a variety of sponges, providing a rich environment for marine life. Divers can explore ledges, caverns, holes, and crevices that are home to sea turtles, three species of lobster, and hundreds of species of reef fish. The shallow side of the reef, with depths around 11 feet, is perfect for snorkeling, offering clear visibility and an abundance of marine species to observe. Peck Lake Reef is not only a hotspot for marine biodiversity but also a great location for divers of all experience levels. The calm conditions and relatively shallow depths make it an ideal site for novice divers to practice their skills, while the diverse marine life and complex reef structures provide plenty of interest for more experienced divers. The reef’s proximity to the shore also means that it is easily accessible, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors.

Route & typical conditions

This dive is usually done as an anchor dive. Divers can explore the reef in their own and then return to the starting point of the dice.

Typical conditions

Conditions are usually good at this site: visibility can range from 30 to 70 feet and currents are mild given its proximity to shore. If choppy at the surface, surge may make divers feel the surge underwater.
