Site description
This costal freighter sit in 190 feet of water and is straight due north from the Lowrance. Although the Lowrance is a hard wreck to miss given its orientation (east to west), it's not unheard of divers missing the Lowrance and ending at the Renegade - and for first timers believe the Rebegade is ACTUALLY the Lowrance... well, it is not :)
Becaue Renegade is much less visited that Lowrance, marine life is thriving in this site: all kind of jacks are always present in this wreck. So are a huge population of loin fish that are yet to find a natural predator other than human beings,
Penetration is possible in this wreck - although very limited.
Route & typical conditions
Route
Once at the sand level coming from the hot drop, divers may want to level their depth with 190ft and continue swimming north if the current was read as north.
At the wreck, divers shall take sometime to visit the wreck, Be mindful that because this wreck was sunk to help push sport fishing in the area, thousands of fishing lines are decorating the wreck. A cutting device should be mandatory for this wreck.
Typical conditions
Conditions tend to be dark at depth with visibility ranging from 20 to 50 feet. Currents are not that strong at depth, but temperature may descend more than 10 degress (specially during summer times)
Wreck history
The ship was launched on September 12, 1951, from Scheepswerf Gebr. Coops in the Netherlands. Over the years, it changed ownership several times: first to Swedish owners in 1963 and later to Colombian owners in 1977. Unfortunately, in 1981, the U.S. Coast Guard seized the freighter in Key West, and it was subsequently abandoned on the Miami River. Finally, on June 10, 1985, the vessel was intentionally sunk off Hillsboro Inlet, approximately 800 feet north of the Lowrance.
