Site description

Rocky Reef is a roughly semicircular formation with its opening facing the mainland. The sandy area at the center provides an ideal anchoring spot. There are three mooring buoys available at this site, and it’s recommended to use them if possible. If not, ensure your anchor is placed in the sand to avoid damaging the coral. Although the concessionaire offers trips to this reef, it remains relatively pristine due to its absence from park maps, resulting in fewer visitors. The sandy area within the reef ranges from 35 to 40 feet deep. As you swim towards the ocean, the depth decreases to between 20 and 25 feet. On the north side of the inner area, a small wall drops from 20 feet down to 38 feet, featuring small coral caves frequented by large schools of baitfish. Under the ledges, you’ll find schools of copper sweepers and several large moray eels, while brilliant red sponges grow on top. The excellent light penetration in this area makes the colorful ledges and schools of fish a delight for underwater photographers. This site is considered one of the best shallow reef dives in the park. Snorkelers will find plenty to see from the surface, although most of the action is slightly deeper. A night dive along the drop-off offers a unique experience, giving the sensation of being in an underwater theater.
