Site description

“The Caves” is a popular shallow coral reef site in Fort Lauderdale, located close to Port Everglades Inlet. Despite its name, it doesn’t actually have caves. Divers, fishermen, and snorkelers frequent the area, enjoying the ocean breeze. The site features high relief finger ledges, making it a great spot to explore marine life. Lobster hunting is also popular here, especially during night dives. Dive operators in the are visit The Caves regularly. It’s part of the 2nd Reef line off the Broward County coast, with small caves that could be inhabited by lobsters or nurse sharks. Additionally, the reef consists of tall ledges where nurse sharks and large moray eels sometimes nap, and divers often encounter lobsters and small turtles during the day.
