Site description

The Titan, an approximately 70-foot long tug, was scuttled about six nautical miles off St. Lucie Inlet in 80 feet of water. The wreck rests upright, facing west, just inshore of a natural reef line known as the Six Mile Reef. Divers can enter the water just south of the wreck and drift northward with the prevailing current until they spot the Titan in the sand, a short distance from the reef. This setup allows divers to explore both the natural reef and the small shipwreck in a single dive. Unfortunately, the 2004 hurricanes impacted the tugboat, tearing off the Titan’s wheelhouse structure and depositing it in the sand approximately 40 feet away from the hull.

Route & typical conditions

Route

Local dive operators may usually put divers in the water upcurrent on the reef (Six Mile Reef) allowing divers to see the tugboat after a few minutes at the bottom. The wreck sits east to west which makes it easy to spot.

Typical conditions

Conditions are typically good in this site. Currents tend to be moderate to strong but visibility is usually really good - perfect conditions for a drift dive.
