Site description

Snorkeling and diving at the North Dry Rocks (NDR) area in Key Largo is a fantastic experience. Let’s explore the highlights: Double North: Located on a super shallow reef, it offers some of the best snorkeling in the Florida Keys. Colorful fish and massive coral formations abound. A relaxing diving spot, perfect for underwater photography due to its large angelfish population. Minnow Cave (at North Dry Rocks): An incredible diving experience awaits you here. Thousands of darting silver glass minnows surround you, creating a mesmerizing underwater spectacle. Horseshoe Reef: Head northwest from Double Rocks to find Horseshoe Reef. This long stretch of coral features a distinctive “U” shaped hole. While visibility may be slightly poorer due to its proximity to shore, the abundant coral and tropical fish make it an excellent snorkeling site

Route & typical conditions

Route

As usual in most of Key Largo shallow dives, operators will set a line to an existing mooring ball to prevent anchoring in sensitive bottom. Divers will need to swim back to the boat and pay special attention to the location of the ball where the dive charter is parked.

Typical conditions

Compared to some other Key Largo sites, this one may see poorer visibility due to its proximity to shore. Still, divers shall expect no less than 40 to 50 feet of visibility. Currents tend to be mild in this site.
