Site description

Many years ago, we affectionately named this site the “Nursery” due to the presence of a family of nurse sharks that call it home. Nestled within its waters, the Nursery boasts an ideal habitat, characterized by large undercut ledges. These submerged formations provide shelter and a safe haven for marine life. As divers and snorkelers explore the area, they encounter the resident nurse sharks, which have become accustomed to human presence. These graceful creatures gracefully glide around the boat, their sleek bodies weaving through the water. Meanwhile, on the surface, a bustling community of fish surrounds snorkelers, creating a vibrant underwater tableau. Occasional glimpses of the resident moray eel add an element of intrigue to the Nursery. Its sinuous form and watchful eyes make it a captivating sight for those lucky enough to spot it. Over the years, the Nursery has garnered attention, featuring prominently in television shows and magazines, drawing visitors from far and wide to witness its aquatic wonders

Nestled off the coast of Southeast Florida lies a hidden gem for divers and snorkelers—the captivating “Nursery” dive site. Its name, bestowed upon it many years ago, evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity. What secrets lie beneath the shimmering surface of these azure waters? Anchor Dive with Nurse Sharks: The “Nursery” is renowned for its resident nurse sharks. As the boat drops anchor, participants eagerly gear up, ready to immerse themselves in this underwater haven. The allure of interacting with these graceful creatures draws divers from far and wide. The nurse sharks, accustomed to human presence, glide effortlessly around the boat, their sleek bodies a testament to the beauty of marine life. Venturing Beyond the Ledge: While most visitors choose to linger near the boat, there’s an invitation to explore further. Grab your dive flag and venture down the submerged ledge. Here, the underwater landscape unfolds—a tapestry of colors, textures, and marine inhabitants. The ledge itself, adorned with corals and sponges, provides shelter for a myriad of fish species. As you descend, the sunlight filters through the water, casting dancing shadows on the sandy bottom. Shark Action and Beyond: For those seeking adventure, the “Nursery” offers more than just shark encounters. Swim alongside schools of vibrant fish—parrotfish, angelfish, and sergeant majors—each contributing to the lively ecosystem. Keep an eye out for the elusive moray eel, its sinuous form peeking out from crevices. The eel’s watchful eyes seem to hold ancient secrets, adding an element of mystery to the dive. Best Shallow Dive: What sets the “Nursery” apart is its accessibility. This shallow dive allows divers of all levels to explore its wonders.
