Site description
“Rocky Top” is a vibrant patch reef located just off the shore of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Renowned for its crystal blue waters and diverse marine life, the reef is a sanctuary for thousands of fish, coral, and larger species like sea turtles, sharks, and rays. The reef’s summit is approximately 15 feet below the surface, while the surrounding sand lies between 20 and 25 feet deep, making it not only a fantastic dive site but also an excellent spot for snorkeling. With a mooring ball available for boats, navigation around “Rocky Top” is straightforward: if you’re over the reef, you’ve arrived; if you find yourself over sand or sea grass, you’ve strayed. The site is also noted for a resident green sea turtle affectionately named “Bertle,” adding a personal touch to the diving experience.

Given the site size, this dive is always conducted as an anchor dive by local operators. It's a nice an shallow reef for all levels that can easily be discovered in one dive.
Typical conditions
Conditions are often nice in this site. Visibility averages 50 feet and currents tend to be null (or mild at the most). Given the site's depth, underwater conditions may be affected by surface conditions - divers should expect surge if choppy at the surface.
