Site description
Sanctuary, similar to many South Florida reefs, forms part of the outer reef running parallel to the shoreline. The primary ledge, facing west, hosts abundant sea life and coral cover. Although not officially designated as a sanctuary, some dive operators have agreed to avoid placing hunters in this area to preserve its pristine condition. The southern end lacks the pronounced relief found at the northern end, which is adorned with soft corals and marine creatures.
Route & typical conditions
Route
Begin your dive from either the northern or southern hook and follow the main ledge. This route offers the most scenic views. If you’re lobstering, consider exploring the deeper side of the reef (east) near the Spur & Groove or the false ledge to the west.
Typical conditions
Conditions tend to be very good in this site. Current can be mild to moderate, but visibility ranges from 40 to 80 feet.
