Site description

The Thozina is a fascinating wreck located off Palm Beach, Florida. It was intentionally sunk on December 15, 2002, as part of the Governor’s River Walk Reef. This 174-foot coastal freighter lies in 90 feet of water, positioned just east of the Sha Sha Boekanier and the Gilbert Sea wrecks. Despite the impact of past hurricanes, the Thozina provides an exceptional diving experience. Divers can explore all four wrecks as they drift northward with the Gulf Stream, encountering resident marine life such as Goliath grouper, sea turtles, rays, and sharks. The vessel’s history includes various name changes and ownership transitions, making it a captivating addition to the underwater landscape

Wreck history

Thozina historic photo
The Thozina, a 425-ton German coaster, has a rich past. Originally launched as the Lisa Eichmann in 1957, it underwent several name changes and ownership transitions. From the Caribbean to Honduras, it sailed under various names, including Cavalier Star, Arawak Star, and Sea Queen. In July 2002, Palm Beach County acquired the vessel from the US Customs Service, which had seized it earlier that year due to concealed narcotics onboard. On December 15, 2002, the Thozina found its final resting place as the fourth vessel deployed at the Governor’s River Walk Reef off Palm Beach. Despite the impact of past hurricanes, this 174-foot freighter offers divers a phenomenal experience. Drifting northward with the Gulf Stream, divers can explore all four wrecks in the area, encountering resident marine life such as Goliath grouper, sea turtles, rays, and sharks.
