Site description

The Mariner 2 barge sits in 125 feet of water off the coast of Pompano Beach. It's a feature less barge, big but nothing special to offer to divers. There are some marine life that frequent this wreck, but given it flat profile, divers shall not expect much of it. Penetration is not possible in this wreck.

Route & typical conditions

Route

This site is rarely done as a schedule dive by any local operator. This barge is part of the Mariner trek together with the Mary St. Phillip tug (Mariner 2 tug) and the Union Express (Mariner 1). Distance from the Mariner 2 Tug to this wreck is quite significant. Divers running scooters may leave the Rodeo 25 or Lady Luck to reach this site. If attempting to reach by swimming, divers may depart from Union Express (Mariner 1). A few laps around the barge will show divers everything it has to offer. Divers should be mindful that this site sits east to the Mariner 1 and currents may affect headings.

Typical conditions

Although currents are not typically strong in this site, they are unpredictable. Visibility is usually good, ranging from 30 to 60 feet.
