Site description

The Merci Jesus is a 90-foot-long shipwreck with a width of approximately 26 feet. Its bow points southward, and the hull stands upright on the ocean floor. Divers can explore the Merci Jesus at depths ranging from 55 to 70 feet. The top deck lies within open water limits, making it accessible even to open water divers. As you descend, you’ll encounter the deck area, which offers intriguing swim-throughs. While circumnavigating the wreck, consider dropping down into the deck—an area that provides a cool exploration experience without technically being an “overhead environment.” Below, you’ll find several swim-throughs suitable for most divers. The stern of the Merci Jesus holds captivating features. The wheelhouse, with its overhead environment, and the cabin at the back offer excellent opportunities for underwater photography and videography.

Route & typical conditions

Route

A couple of laps will be enough to check on this wreck which does off almost no penetration opportunities. This site is the northern most point of the Fort Lauderdale wreck trek. Rebars on the south end guide divers to the Ken Vitale (aka Tracey).

Typical conditions

Conditions are usually good in this site. Navigation to the other wreck of the trek is aided by the existence of rebars every 30 feet in the sand - even with relatively poor visibility, divers may be able to hit all wrecks in the trek. Current are often mild and heading north. Be mindful of the current conditions if you plan to visit all wrecks in a single dive.
