Site description

The Miss Karline, also known as the Miss Marlene, is a collapsed steel hull measuring 85 feet in length that used to be a shrimp boat. It lies just 100 feet southeast of the Patricia in the Anchorage Artificial Reef Site. Since sinking in 1989, an abundance of coral growth has transformed what was once a sandy area. Due to its proximity to other wrecks, the Miss Karline attracts a wealth of fish and other sea life. Divers can explore this wreck at a maximum depth of 51 feet, with a 15-foot profile, allowing for longer bottom times. If you’re planning a dive, the Miss Karline offers an intriguing underwater experience!

Route & typical conditions

Route

Although operators may set trips to this site, they will typically anchor near the Patricia that lies 100 feet north west of this site. Both sites are connected by a rock pile which makes navigation back and forth very easy.

Typical conditions

Conditions are typically good with visibility ranging 40 to 60 feet and mild currents heading north.

Wreck history

The Miss Karline, an 85-foot-long trawler, was intentionally sunk in 55 feet of water as an artificial reef in May 1989. Unfortunately, Hurricane Andrew caused significant damage to the vessel in August 1992, resulting in a heavy list to one side. Only the bow and stern remain recognizable. The wreck is part of the “Miami Wreck Trek,” which also includes the 65-foot-long tugboat Patricia, resting nearby. Rebar stakes connect the Miss Karline, the Patricia, a boulder pile, and other artificial reef materials. The shallow depth makes this site ideal for novice divers. If you’re planning to explore underwater wrecks, the Miss Karline offers an intriguing adventure!
