Site description

The Patricia, a 65-foot steel tugboat, was intentionally sunk in June 1990 within the Anchorage artificial reef site. This site lies north of Government Cut and south of Haulover Islet, approximately 53 feet underwater. The Patricia is conveniently close to the Rock Pile, forming part of an extensive “Trek Diving” reef area where divers can explore multiple wrecks during a single dive. Nearby, you’ll find other wrecks like the Miss Karline, Police Barge, and Radio Antennas, as well as several Rock Piles. The Mathew Lawrence and Army wrecks are also within reach. Abundant fish life thrives here, and the shallower depths make it an excellent spot for underwater photography.

Route

Divers may get familiar with this site wi one or two laps around. There is little opportunity to penetrate this site and it's also a very small site. To the south of this site, there is a rock pile that helps navigate to the Miss Karlin (aka Karleen).

Wreck history

On June 29, 1990, the 65-foot tugboat Patricia was intentionally sunk as an artificial reef off the coast of Miami. Resting in just over 50 feet of water, the Patricia is part of the “Miami Wreck Trek.” This underwater trail also includes the shrimper Miss Karline, located approximately 100 feet to the south along a rebar stake trail. While not definitively confirmed, there’s a possibility that the Patricia was originally the tugboat North Harbor, officially numbered 210681. The North Harbor was built in 1912 by the Great Lakes Towing Company in Cleveland, Ohio. It measured 68.6 feet in length, 17 feet in width, and initially displaced 73 gross tons. In 1966, the tug was renamed Patricia under the ownership of Bay State Tow Boat Company, Incorporated in Everett, Massachusetts. Historical records suggest that this tugboat was abandoned in 1975.
