Site description

The Paraiso wreck rests upright in 75 feet of water, just a few miles offshore from Key Biscayne, with its bow pointing east. Although not a massive wreck, it offers an excellent site for a full dive. Marine life thrives here, and divers may encounter schools of tropical fish both inside and outside the wreck. The relief from the sand is good, and its perpendicular orientation to typical currents provides shelter for divers. Reports suggest that bull sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, and even hammerheads have been spotted in this area. The region surrounding this wreck is rich in other wrecks that attract large pelagic species. Divers have also reported frequently the presence of a big Goliath grouper that lives in this wreck.

Route & typical conditions

Route

The Paraiso sits in between the wrecks of Princess Britney and Rio Miami in the south to north corridor. It's also around 150 feet west of the Sheri Lyn. Regardless oh how divers get here, the best route is to do a couple of laps around the wreck to get a feeling of it. Divers can then explore the interior of the wreck - specially the space under the bridge. Do not attempt penetration if not qualified for it. If currents are not strong, divers may attempt to reach the Sheri Lyn due east of this site just less than 150 feet. It's advisable to deploy a line that can easily be recovered on return.

Typical conditions

Conditions vary a lot in this site. Typically, strong currents mean great visibility. In summer times it's common to have 50 to 70 feet of visibility while winter time may be in the forty feef range.

Wreck history

Little else is known about this vessel’s construction or service history, though it appears she was originally built as an offshore supply vessel. The Paraiso III now rests in 75 feet of water between the Rio Miami and Princess Britney.
