Site description

The Army Tanks: A Submerged Legacy In 1994, two massive Vietnam-era army tanks found their final resting place in approximately 50 feet of water. These 40-ton behemoths now form part of the captivating Wreck Trek—an underwater trail that beckons divers to explore its hidden wonders. The tanks themselves are more than mere relics; they’ve become thriving ecosystems. Imagine swimming alongside these hulking remnants of military history, their surfaces adorned with marine growth and secrets from the past. Life Among the Tanks: A Bustling Community Nestled between the two tanks lies a limestone boulder wall—a natural divider that adds intrigue to the scene. Here, marine life thrives:Barracudas: These sleek predators patrol the area, their silver bodies slicing through the water. Moray Eels: Peering out from crevices, morays exhibit their sinuous grace. Their eyes dart, ever watchful. Lobsters: Seek out the nooks and crannies—the lobsters claim these as their hideaways. Resident Nurse Shark: A gentle giant, the nurse shark glides silently, its spotted skin blending with the tank’s rusted exterior. Beyond the Tanks: The Matthew Lawrence Wreck As you explore, don’t miss the nearby 110-foot barge—the Matthew Lawrence Wreck. Its skeletal frame rests on the ocean floor, inviting curious divers. The Matthew Lawrence, like the Army Tanks, harbors its own stories. Perhaps it carried cargo, dreams, or even secrets across the waves. Future Plans: More Tanks Await The underwater landscape is ever-evolving. Exciting news awaits: plans are underway to introduce additional tanks to this site in the coming years. Imagine the possibilities—a submerged fleet of armored giants, each contributing to the delicate balance of life beneath the waves. So, whether you’re a history enthusiast, a marine biologist, or simply seeking adventure, the Army Tanks and their aquatic companions await your exploration. Dive in and discover the hidden treasures of the deep!
